92% of Liberals abstained from voting against C-50
Jun 02, 2008 at 06:40 PM

Empty seats where Liberal MPs should be.

Today the vote took place on the NDP amendments to C-50 (to delete the Immigration sections of the bill) and on the first half of third reading (called Reports Stage).

Debate was sadly ignored by a majority of Parliamentarians with only 3 liberals, 3 bloc members, and 1 conservative speaking on the bill. New Democrats made 18 speeches at this stage.

Not surprisingly the Liberals didn't even bother to show up for work.

The vote went down as follows:

Delete immigration section of C-50:
YAY: 83
NAY: 114

Reports stage vote on C-50 moving it forward:
YAY: 114
NAY: 82

Breakdown according to parties: (Unofficial Count)
Liberals: 12 (and then 11) out of 96 (voted for the amendments and agains the bill but 92% abstained)
Conservatives: 114 out of 127 (voted against the amendments and supported the bill)
NDP: 29 out of 30 (voted for our own amendments and against the bill)
BLOC: 41 out of 48 (voted for the amendments and against the bill)
Independent 1 out of 4 (voted for the amendments and against the bill)
